Highlights from Our 2025 Nonprofit Technology Ecosystem Trends Report
Each year, more nonprofits are exploring tech tools to make operations more efficient and 2025 is no exception. In our latest report on the tech trends among nonprofits, we dug through more than 600 survey responses to get a sense of the types of tools, processes, and challenges facing organizations working in the social good space. We asked participants about the number of tech solutions their organizations use, the types of solutions that are most popular, and what kinds of solutions they are looking to onboard in the future.
This extensive research over the course of the past year has yielded some common themes and insights, which we share in this article. Read on for highlights from our findings while researching the state of nonprofit technology in 2025.
Top Tech Trends Among Nonprofits in 2025
1. Facing increased competition and other funding headwinds, nonprofits are investing in more tech tools
The past year has been a difficult one for many organizations. The persisting problem of inflation means many donors are tightening their budgets and giving less than they have in past years. In fact, since 2014, giving rates from affluent households have steadily declined. For many U.S. based nonprofits, policy changes at the federal level have caused uncertainty, with many organizations weary about funding, staffing, and priorities in the short term. Generation Z is coming into its own as a block of donors, with different priorities, modes of communication, and expectations for personalization that differ from generations. Because of this, more organizations are seeking options for technological solutions to meet the needs of a shifting landscape.

2. Nonprofits have more technology options than ever
Since 2012, the number of nonprofit technology options has nearly tripled. Each year, more tools become available and existing tools add more functionality to help nonprofits raise funds, distribute services, manage volunteers, host events, and all the other important work that serves the mission. Not only that, but solutions have also adapted to specific industries, tailoring features to nonprofits based on size, mission, demographics, and more. The growth in tech tools is causing more organizations to evaluate their practices and see how they can expand their operations and reach more tech-savvy audiences.
3. Nonprofit tech stacks are growing
Following last year’s trend, nonprofits are continuing to adopt new technology and add solutions to their tech stacks. In our survey, 90% of respondents stated that their organization was using three or more third-party systems beyond their main CRM (e.g. Raiser’s Edge NXT, Salesforce), up slightly from 89% in 2024. 79% of respondents stated that their organization was using five or more third-party systems, up from 62% in 2024. Not only that, but nearly half of all respondents are considering changing their CRM in the next 12 months, up from 10% last year. As technology becomes more central to how nonprofits work, having a seamless way to connect it all is no longer optional; it’s essential.
