Copying Profiles to Save More Time with ImportOmatic 3.0
The much anticipated release of ImportOmatic 3.0 includes some great new functionality updates. One such update improves the ability to copy an existing profile. You have the ability to copy an existing import profile while maintaining the field mapping, or you can opt out of the field mapping retention and simply re-map. This functionality can be a huge time saver if you have a new import to setup. Perhaps there is an existing profile that does exactly what you need, so don’t waste time recreating it – just copy!
When you select “Copy” from the main ImportOmatic Configuration screen, you will be prompted to give the copied profile a new ID.
Once you enter a new ID, a second prompt will appear asking if you would like to change the field mapping for your new profile.
If you select “Yes,” the system will reset the field mapping and remove the virtual fields. Then, you will be prompted to select your new data source, and the new mapping screen will open based on your new data source. From there, you can map the fields and create new virtual fields for the new profile as needed.
If you want to keep your virtual fields, you can opt out of changing the field mapping when creating the profile copy. This option for copying is super helpful in countless scenarios! As an example, if you have an existing profile for student data, and you need another profile for parent data that processes exactly the same – just copy it!
To keep virtual fields and field mapping in your profile copy, select “No” on the “Change adapter” pop-up window. Then, you can choose to change your data source to accommodate your new import.
To change the data source, navigate to the General Settings section from your main profile menu and select “Change Data Source”.
Once you click the Change Data Source link, you will be prompted to locate and select your new data source. Don’t forget – with ImportOmatic 3.0 you can now select Microsoft Excel files and other data sources too!
Finally, after your new data source is loaded into the mapping screen, remapping is needed based upon your new data source. Please note: The virtual fields from the original profile have been retained, so don’t forget to review and modify these fields as needed. As a best practice, be sure to review these settings prior to processing your import.
And…Voilà! The time savings are almost instantaneous! So, the next time you have a new import to get done, don’t forget about your existing profile copying options.
